Code of Welfare, Llamas and Alpacas

The Code of Welfare for llamas and alpacas has just been published (April 26, 2013).

This code covers both the minimum standards (which are legally enforceable) and recommended best practices, as well as giving general advice and information about camelids. Codes of Welfare are a part of the Animal Welfare Act (1999) that provide species-specific information for the proper care of animals.

It is a great accomplishemnt that camelids, despite their relatively low numbers in NZ, now have their own code.
